Chapman Athletics unveils annual Senior Awards winners

ORANGE, Calif. – Chapman University Athletics celebrated another outstanding year with its annual Jog-a-thon at Wilson Field on Friday. The Panthers looked back on all the successes of the 2015-16 seasons and honored four seniors with the department's annual awards.

Jack Duddy Female Leadership Award: Haley Fedden, Women's Soccer

A three-time All-SCIAC and two-time All-Region selection, Fedden shattered Chapman's minutes played record and became the first Panther to win the Brine Award of Distinction for sportsmanship, community service and academic success as a senior. Head Coach Courtney Calderon said, "I have never played with or coached a more selfless leader. She consistently put her teammates first even through the loss of her father. Her legacy will forever be discussed as a leader and mentor in our program."

Don Perkins Male Leadership Award: Connor Williams, Baseball

The SAAC President and captain on the baseball team, Williams has been a strong leader in the clubhouse. He is a four-year letterman and a two-time Academic All-SCIAC honoree. Head coach Scott Laverty said, "Connor is the rare combination of both a vocal leader and leader by example; a charismatic and extremely hard worker who has earned the respect of his peers which allows him to lead through both of these qualities."

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Andrea Hammer, Women's Tennis

Hammer was an All-American in both singles and doubles in 2014. She has played at the top of Chapman's singles and doubles lineup. This weekend, she will lead the Panthers into the SCIAC Championship ranked 22nd in the West Region in singles and 10th in doubles. She has compiled 33 career wins over her four-year career. She owns a 3.79 GPA and will graduate with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Chris Reid, Cross Country

Reid has earned All-West Region honors in each of the last three years as a Panther. He made Chapman history last fall as he became the first runner from Chapman to earn an invitation to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship. Reid broke and re-broke the school record during his time as a Panther on the 8k course. He owns a 3.53 GPA and will graduate with a degree in business administration.

The Jog-A-Thon and Sports Appreciation Day is a tradition spanning the decades for Chapman University Athletics. Family, friends and loved ones sponsor a Chapman student athlete to jog 10 laps around the Holly and David Wilson Field at a choice of levels ranging from $100 per lap to $.50 per lap.

These funds are utilized throughout the year to support important equipment, programs and events for the Donald P. Kennedy Intercollegiate Athletics Program at Chapman University.
