SCIAC recognizes 178 Panthers on All-Academic team, every Chapman team above a 3.0

ORANGE, Calif. – An impressive number of Chapman University student-athletes were again recognized for their work in the classroom. The Panthers placed 178 student-athletes on the SCIAC's annual All-Academic team, the conference announced on Thursday.

Of the 178 individuals to earn the recognition, 12 student-athletes earned the All-Academic distinction in two sports to give the Panthers 190 roster spots on the annual team. With 190 recognitions, over 40 percent of Chapman student-athletes achieved the academic honor.

In order to earn the distinction of SCIAC All-Academic, an individual had to hold a 3.4 cumulative GPA or higher as of the end of the 2016-17 academic school year. Chapman's inaugural women's golf team led the department with a 3.5 GPA and landed 75 percent of its roster on the SCIAC All-Academic team.

The women's golf team was one of 10 Panther teams to place at least half of its roster on the All-Academic team. The men's cross country and women's soccer team also had more than 70 percent of its roster earn the recognition.

As a department, Chapman University athletics again ended the year with a department GPA above a 3.0. The 474 student-athletes across 21 sports combined for a 3.31 GPA. Each of the Panthers' 21 teams posted above a 3.0 team GPA at year's end.
