Chapman Athletics announces annual awards

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Chapman University Athletics announced its annual awards through a virtual awards show on May 7, 2020. Chapman proudly announced the winners of the four annual senior awards as well as the Team GPA award winners.

The first award of the night was the Team GPA award, which was swept by the corss country program. The men's team hade the highest GPA of all 10 male teams with a 3.636 GPA. The women's team had the highest GPA of all 21 teams with a 3.707 GPA.

Drake Butler (Men's Team Captain): 
"I think it attests to how much the cross country athletes value their academic opportunities and shows their ability to follow through on their commitments."

Emma Ellington (Women's Team Captain):
"I'm so proud of our girls for winning the gpa award because it shows our dedication to academics as well as athletics." 

Head Coach DeAndra'e Woods:
"By no means am I surprised by this. Both men's and women's cross country have amazing individuals apart of our teams. They all value the importance of being holistic student-athletes. We as a staff are incredibly proud of all the dedicated hard work and sacrifice that they continue to apply to their collegiate experience." 

Profiles of all four senior award winners went up on the website on Thursday night after the awards show.

Jack Duddy Leadership Award: Leah Donnelly, women's lacrosse

Don Perkins Leadership Award: Joe Jimenez, baseball

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Ryan Moles, football

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Faith Holloway, women's soccer
