SCIAC working towards safe return to play

The Presidents' Council of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), during a June 17 meeting, affirmed its commitment to providing a safe and healthy return to athletics, if permitted by state, county, NCAA guidelines, and each institution's independent policy determinations.  The SCIAC Presidents reaffirmed that conference members will make independent institutional decisions regarding if and when it is safe to return to campus, including athletic practice and competition.

While institutional decisions on the return to athletics are still pending, the Presidents' Council agreed that any permitted or approved competition will be conference-only in the fall. Due to the close geographic proximity of SCIAC institutions, should health conditions allow, the conference is uniquely positioned to provide a meaningful and competitive experience. Additionally, the Presidents' Council determined a minimal number of at least four SCIAC institutions to sponsor a sport for conference play to occur.

The Presidents from each SCIAC institution have been in communication with the SCIAC office about individual campus planning in an effort to coordinate conference logistics and planning.  The SCIAC anticipates decisions regarding the specific schedules and structure for 2020 fall varsity athletics to be made by mid-July, subject to any directives from public health authorities at federal, state or local county level.
