Bio

Castillo spent just one season in a Panther uniform, but he made a lasting impression. The Orange County native and Santa Ana College transfer composed an All-America campaign in 1978 when he batted .354 with 13 homers and set a school record with 58 RBI in 55 games while leading Chapman to a 40-win season and second place finish at the West Regionals. He also earned the Hertzog Trophy as the Panthers' MVP.

Castillo didn't return to Hart Park the next year because he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the fifth round of the MLB Draft, the 116th pick of the '78 draft. Castillo reached the big leagues in 1981 and had a five-year career that included winning the '84 World Series with the Tigers - against former Chapman teammate and Hall of Famer Tim Flannery's San Diego Padres.
