Bio

Flannery compiled an impressive collegiate resume before spending 11 seasons in the Major Leagues with the San Diego Padres. A scrappy second baseman, he played three years for Chapman with a career batting average of .399. He set single-season school records for batting (.435 in 1978) and hits (90 in 1976) and led the Panthers to a pair of second place finishes at the NCAA Division II West Regionals in 1976 and '78. He was named Chapman's Most Inspirational Player all three years with the Panthers.

After his junior year, Flannery was drafted in the sixth round of the 1978 MLB draft by the Padres and signed with the Friars. A year later he was with the big league club and helped the Padres to the 1984 National League pennant and World Series appearance. His best season in the Majors came the next year when he hit .281 with 14 doubles, 40 RBI and 50 runs. Over his 11-year career, he collected 631 big league hits and had a .255 average. He has also won two World Series rings with the San Francisco Giants (2010 and '12) as their third base coach.
