Bio
A two-sport athlete for Chapman over three years, McCarter made his biggest impact on the diamond under head coach Don Perkins. The pitcher/outfielder earned the Hertzog Trophy as the Chapman's most valuable player twice in 1956 and '57. In '56, the Panthers went 14-7-1 thanks in part to McCarter's 5-2 record on the mound and team-best .372 average at the plate and he was nominated for Orange County Player of the Year.
McCarter was also a three-year letter winner on the Chapman basketball team which reached the NCAA Regional playoffs in 1957 and the national championships in '58. He set a school record for field goal percentage during the '57-58 season as a senior.
