Bio

Beloved athletic trainer Monte Smith spent 19 years at Chapman teaching and heading the Athletic Training internship program. The University of Colorado graduate spent seven years at his alma mater as the head athletic trainer before moving to Southern California to work at Chapman. The accomplished Smith worked for U.S. National and Olympic teams, in the Gator Bowl and Liberty Bowl, and for such coaches as Jerry Tarkanian and Walt Hazzard. His work at Chapman had a profound affect on what the Chapman athletic training program has become today. Former students mentored by Smith include Chapman’s former head athletic trainer Jack Bauerle and current head athletic trainer Pam Gibbons.
