Snell was the "Big Man on Campus" as a senior in 1951-52, even if he wasn't the biggest in size. Not did he earn the Welch Trophy as the MVP of the basketball team and the Hertzog Trophy as MVP of the baseball team that spring, but he served as the student body president during his senior year at Chapman. In 1952, Snell earned All-SCIAC honors during Chapman's brief (two-year) tenure in the conference and was named Chapman's "Silver Senior" Athlete of the Year. He was an All-Conference selection and team captain in both sports. He also ran the mile as part of the track and field team.
