Bio

Spare played shortstop for the Panthers in 1971 and '72, helping the 1972 team to a 40-19 record, a top-10 national ranking and a second place finish at the West Regionals. He batted .365 and led the nation with a school-record 84 hits (in 58 games) and was named first-team All-American.

He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 30th round of the 1972 Major League draft and played four seasons in the minors within the Kansas City and Oakland organizations. Spare reached as high as Double-A Birmingham with the A's.
