When he graduated, he was considered one of the top rebounders in school history, but because he only played two seasons for Chapman (1957-59), his career numbers don't reflect it. Regardless, Van Horn teamed with Marvin Decker to create a "skyscraper" front court on a team that ranked as high as No. 7 in the country. In the midst of the Panthers' great basketball dominance in the late 50s-early 60s, he helped the Panthers win the West Regional in 1958 and advance to their first-ever NCAA national championship tournament and get back to the Regionals in '59 with a 23-4 record.
