Bio

A two-time All-America selection on the diamond, Weathers led the Panthers to the regional playoffs in 1970 and was a team captain and named Most Inspirational when he batted .355 as a senior. The summer between his junior and senior years he was a member of the 1970 U.S. Pan American team and was the squad's third-leading hitter.

Upon graduating from Chapman in 1971, the infielder was drafted in the first round of the Major League draft by the Oakland Athletics and spent seven seasons in the minor leagues with Oakland and the Toronto Blue Jays organizations. He amassed 491 career hits in the minors, reaching as high as Triple-A before joining the coaching ranks.

After two seasons as head baseball coach at the University of Utah, Weathers returned to Chapman as an assistant and was named head coach in 1984 where he led the Panthers to a CCAA title and the NCAA Regionals behind a school-record 47 wins and was named CCAA Coach of the Year. He helped transition the Chapman baseball program to Division I status in 1992 before taking a job at Long Beach State where he served as head coach of the Dirtbags from 2001-09 and won over 300 games. In his 19 seasons as a collegiate head coach, Weathers won 590 games and coached 13 eventual Major Leaguers.
