Larkin, Zickefoose fuel 12-2 win

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore Conner Larkin and freshman Konnor Zickefoose led an offensive surge in a 12-2 win over visiting Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday. The duo, who hit 6-7 in the lineup, had a huge game to lead the offensive onslaught.

Zickefooes and Larkin combined for five hits – four of which went for extra bases – as well as seven runs scored and drove in five more runs. Zickefoose's double in the second inning gave Chapman the boost it needed after Larkin followed with a run-scoring double to tie the game at 1-1.

Larkin later scrambled home on senior Greg Dillon's single for a 2-1 lead. Larkin doubled again in the fourth to knock in Zickefoose and later came home after an EMU error following a sacrifice bunt. The Royals' errors became a theme of the night as the visitors committed seven total in the contest to help along Chapman's cause.

Two errors to start the bottom of the fifth sparked five-run rally that put Chapman way out in front, 9-1.

The Panthers sent eight pitchers to the mound in game after senior Matt Molnar went the first two innings while allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. Freshman Tyler Peck was the fourth pitcher of the game as a new pitcher trotted out each inning for CU, and earned the win.

After EMU scored in the sixth, Ben Vietze, Brad Steiner and Matt Mogollon combined to sit the last nine Royals' batters down in order as each pitched a perfect frame in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

Chapman returns to Hart Park on Sunday for a 1 p.m. game with Rutgers-Newark.
