Zickefoose continues hot streak in 10-2 Panther win

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Konnor Zickefoose continued his multiple-hit game hitting streak with four hits on Thursday night to lift the Panthers to a 10-2 victory over Ithaca College at Hart Park.

The Panthers jumped out with an early 4-0 lead capitalizing on two Bomber errors in the first inning. Junior Kynan Barton held Ithaca scoreless through the first three, giving up just two hits to secure his first win of the season.

Chapman extended its lead to 5-0 in the third when sophomore Conner Larkin knocked in Zickefoose on a single to right. Ithaca scored a run in the fourth to tighten the score 5-1, but Chapman senior David Basen knocked in a run in the fifth to push the Panthers to 6-1.

Ithaca added another run in the seventh to move the score to 6-2, but freshman Christian Cosby lifted the Panthers to an 8-2 lead with a two-run double heading into the eighth.

Chapman hammered in the win with a homerun to left by senior Tyler Cook and a sac-fly RBI by freshman Trevor Willits to secure the 10-2 victory.

Zickefoose finished the game 4-for-5, scoring four runs and stealing two bases for Chapman. Larkin and Cosby went 2-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI each.

Freshman Mason Collins matched Barton with four strike outs in less than two innings pitched.

The Panthers will return to SCIAC play on Saturday, March 19 for a doubleheader against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning at 11 a.m.
