Blodgett selected as SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. – Sophomore Gavin Blodgett led the Chapman offense on a tear last to earn SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week honors. Blodgett raised his batting average to .400 and is one of four Panthers hitting .400 or better this year.

The second baseman from Fullerton caught fire at the plate last week with at least a hit and an RBI in every game. He hit a blistering .727 in four games with 10 RBI, four doubles and five runs scored. On top of going 8-for-11 on the week, he drew two walks and was hit by a pitch for a .733 on base percentage.

Blodgett began the week with a pair of singles and an RBI in the Panthers 14-3 rout of Stevens. After driving in a pair of runs in the first two games of the series with Caltech, he went off for a three-double, five-RBI performance in game three as Chapman completed the sweep.

Over his last nine plate appearances spanning the last three games, Blodgett has reached first every single time. He was 6-for-6 over that span with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. His six RBIs over the same span gave him the team lead with 22 RBIs this season.

The Panthers outscored Stevens and Caltech by a combined score of 56-8 last week. Chapman is on a roll with wins in seven of its last eight games, outscoring opponents 86-19 over that span.
