Baseball honored for academic work

The Chapman University baseball team was awarded the Team Academic Excellence Award from the American Baseball Coaches Association for the first time in program history. The Panthers were one of over 200 college and high school teams to earn the distinction.

An impressive number of Chapman University student-athletes were again recognized for their work in the classroom. The Panthers placed 178 student-athletes on the SCIAC’s annual All-Academic team, the conference announced on Thursday.

Mogollon selected to summer league All-Star team

Sophomore RHP Matt Mogollon was selected to the CCL South team for the California Collegiate League’s annual All-Star Game, the league announced this week. Mogolllon is playing for the Urban Youth Academy Barons in the collegiate summer wood bat league.

Junior Jared Love became the sixth member of the Chapman University baseball team all-time to earn the prestigious honor of Academic All-American from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Love secured a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.

Senior Tyler Cook ended his career with All-America Third Team honors from both D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association. Cook landed his first All-American award and the Chapman University baseball team’s first since 2014 with the selections.

A late surge broke open a close game as the Chapman University baseball team bowed out of the SCIAC Tournament with a 17-8 loss to Redlands. Senior Tyler Cook went 3-for-4 with two more RBIs after a four-RBI game this morning.

The Chapman University baseball team fell just short in the opening game of the SCIAC Tournament with a 5-4 loss to visiting Redlands. The game was tied heading into the ninth but the Bulldogs snuck away with the win.

Junior Jared Love was selected to the Academic All-District VIII team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Love joins a long list of former Panthers to earn the award but is the first baseball student-athlete since 2014 to be selected.

Junior Jared Love came out swinging during the doubleheader last Saturday against Occidental College, helping the Panthers rally from an eight run deficit in the first game and adding to the explosive offense in their second game. Love hit .615 last week with five of his eight hits going for extra bases.

Chapman clinches SCIAC Tournament berth with series sweep over Oxy

After helping Coach Laverty to his 400th career win on Friday night, the Chapman University baseball team swept Occidental College on Saturday to earn a SCIAC Tournament berth. The Panthers rallied from an eight run deficit to defeat the Tigers 12-11 in game one and picked up a 14-5 win in game two to earn the No. 2 seed.

Cook reaches milestones but baseball falls to La Verne

Senior Tyler Cook reached some career milestones but the Chapman University baseball team fell 7-4 to visiting La Verne. Cook’s milestone hits all came late in the game as he helped spark a late rally that ultimately fell short.

The Chapman University baseball team hit their way to a pair of wins against Claremont this Saturday afternoon. Junior Justin Stream went yard in game one for his first career home run and grand slam. Head coach Scott Laverty also picked up his 100th career win in the Panthers’ huge game two comeback.

Baseball out-slugs Pacific for 13-9 win

All nine starters had a hit as the Chapman University baseball team slugged its way to a 13-9 win over visiting Pacific. The Panthers won their fourth in a row to improve to 19-9 on the year.
