Wiehe's clutch week garners SCIAC weekly honor

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior John Wiehe came through in the clutch last week and was rewarded with SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors. Wiehe had four key RBIs to help the Panthers extend their winning streak to four games.

Chapman baseball has won four games in a row and each win has come by a single run. Wiehe did all he could to keep that streak alive with two key RBIs in the Panthers 8-7 win over Redlands and a game-tying double with the Panthers down to their last out against Bates.

Wiehe hit .364 last week but drove in four runs and scored four more times. He smacked a go-ahead double at Redlands and drew a bases loaded walk in the 8-7 win. On Sunday, he blasted a two-out, two-run double off the wall to tie the game at 4-4 against Bates before sprinting home on Gavin Blodgett's single to win the game for the Panthers.

The outfielder from Laguna Hills, Calif., walked twice and was hit twice by a pitch for a .533 on-base percentage. After missing all of last year with an injury, Wiehe has started all seven games for the Panthers and is hitting .357 with a .936 OBP.
