Stream drives in six in series-clinching win

ORANGE, Calif. –  Junior Justin Stream drove in half of the Panthers' runs to lead the Chapman University baseball team to a 12-1 series-clinching win over Concordia University Wisconsin on Sunday. Stream had two hits and was just one RBI shy of Chapman's single game record.

Stream drove in the Panthers' first four runs of the game to give Chapman (11-4) the lead on two separate occasions. His sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first gave the Panthers a run without needing a run. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases.

After the Falcons tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth, Stream opened up the game in the fifth with a bases loaded double. A couple of singles and a walk loaded the bases for Stream, who smashed a double into the right center gap to bring everyone home and give Chapman a 4-1 lead.

A couple more walks loaded the bases again and senior John Wiehe doubled down the line in left to bring in two more. Stream added to the lead again in the sixth with an infield single and sophomore Aaron Vilaubi wore a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 8-1.

Three Falcon errors in the seventh turned into four more runs for the Panthers and the pitching staff kept the Falcon bats from taking off for the big victory and series win.

Sophomore Matt Mogollon allowed just one run on three hits but issued four walks and hit a batter in his four inning start. Sophomore Jonathan Hernandez took over and pitched three innings in scoreless relief, allowing just two hits while striking out a pair. Sophomore Christian Cosby and freshman Austin Merrill each tossed scoreless innings to close out the game.

Chapman scored double digit runs for the fourth time this season in the win and has won 10 of its last 12 games.

The Panthers host another nonconference contest on Tuesday when they take on Kean at 7 p.m. at Hart Park.
