Baseball drops series opener to Whitter

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team fell to Whittier 7-5 in the eighth and final game of their home stand. The Panther offense was led by sophomores Christian Cosby and Jarod Penniman who both went 2-for-4 on the day.

Penniman also had one run and knocked in two RBIs. Cosby was right behind him, scoring a run and driving in an RBI.

Whittier went ahead early, scoring three runs in the fourth inning to add to their lead. Chapman came out swinging in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs to pull within one of the Poets. Penniman earned his two RBIs off a hard-hit line drive to left field, driving in Cosby and senior Conner Larkin.

Each team scored a run in the sixth inning. The Panthers rallied in the bottom of the ninth, with senior John Wiehe driving in his only RBI to score sophomore Tristan Kevitch, who walked to lead off the inning.

Whittier's Justin Ushio went seven innings on the mound to lead the Poets. He struck out three and earned his second win of the season.

The Panthers conclude their series with a doubleheader tomorrow at Whittier. Chapman returns home March 15 to face Ithaca in a nonconference game.
