Seventh inning rally leads to Chapman win over Linfield

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University baseball team rallied to earn a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over Linfield College on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park.

Trailing 2-1, senior John Wiehe single to the right side driving in a pair of runs for the Panthers who took the lead for the first time of the game 3-2 in the seventh. Wiehe then scored on a base hit by Jared Love to help Chapman edge the Wildcats 4-2 and earn the win.

Linfield scored first in the ball game, capitalizing on a walk and stringing three hits together to earn the early lead 1-0 in the third inning. The Panthers responded an inning later when freshman Joe Jimenez knocked in sophomore Christian Cosby on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to tie the score 1-1 in the fourth. 

In the sixth Levi Horner-Villa drove in a run on a single to put the Wildcats back on top 2-1. Horner Villa picked up his second RBI of the game when he homered to left on the first pitch of the eighth inning to push the score to 4-3.  

Sophomores Tyler Peck, Joey Harmon and Matt Mogollon each tossed three innings for the Panthers to earn a total of 13 strikeouts. Mogollon (2-0) picked up the win after tossing three innings and giving up just two hits.

Up next Chapman will travel to Thousand Oaks for a 3 p.m. game against Cal Lutheran. The Panthers will return to Hart Park for a doubleheader against the Kingsmen beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1.
