Love honored as Academic All-American

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Jared Love became the sixth member of the Chapman University baseball team all-time to earn the prestigious honor of Academic All-American from the College Sports Information Directors of America. Love secured a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team.

The Panthers' first baseman from Brea, Calif. is just the sixth Panther to earn the honor and the first since Brian Rauh in 2012. He is the second Chapman student-athlete this year to earn the distinguished award, joining men's soccer player Marco Saglimbeni. Although a junior athletically, Love finished his degree in Physics with a 3.84 GPA while enjoying one of his best seasons on the field.

He led the Panthers with 45 RBIs on a career-best .385 average and seven home runs. His 17 homers at Chapman are tied for tenth all-time. He drew 32 walks in 2017 to more than double his career total and post a .505 on-base percentage, which ranked in the top-50 in the nation. His 18 doubles also led the Panthers and ranked as the 27th-most in the country. He committed just one error this season for a .998 fielding percentage, leading a Panther team that ranked tenth in Division III in fielding.

CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America scholar-athlete honors.
