Blodgett honored as SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. - The Panthers kept on rolling this weekend with a sweep of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Senior Gavin Blodgett led the charge at the plate and was selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Week.

Chapman's third baseman had multiple hits in each game of the series, drove in nine runs and smashed four extra-base hits in the sweep. His first two trips to the plate on Friday resulted in two-RBI doubles as he ended the 9-0 Panther win 3-for-5 with four RBIs.

After going 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's first game, he went 3-for-5 with five more RBIs to help Chapman complete the sweep with a 15-4 win in game two. All three of his hits in the final game brought in at least one run, including a two-run homer – his fifth of the season.

Blodgett and the Panthers have caught fire over the past month. They've won the last six in a row, 16 of their last 17 and 18 of their last 20 games. Chapman has jumped all the way into a tie for third in the SCIAC with two more crucial series to close out the season against La Verne and Occidental.

The Panthers head to La Verne on Friday and finish out the series with the Leopards with a doubleheader at home on Saturday. First pitch is at 11 a.m.
