Tsuruda earns SCIAC award after explosive weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Alex Tsuruda helped lead the Chapman University baseball team to a 4-0 weekend in Tucson, Ariz., earning SCIAC Hitter of the Week.

The right fielder hit .500 with three doubles, five RBIS, five stolen bases and seven runs scored over the course of the weekend. In Friday's game against Pacific Lutheran, Tsuruda doubled in two runs to tie the game 3-3 in the fifth inning. The Panthers went on to score 12 more runs to beat the Lutes 15-5 in their first game of the season.

In Chapman's final game of the weekend against Piedmont, the senior helped spark a six-run comeback with a single and a stolen base in the eighth. Tsuruda went on to score the go-ahead run, helping the Panthers win 8-6.

Chapman returns to Hart Park on Thursday, Feb. 14 at 6pm to host East Texas Lutheran in the first of a three-game series.
