Garcia earns national recognition after pitching debut

ORANGE, Calif. – After his first two collegiate appearances on the mound, sophomore Nick Garcia has earned national recognition. Garcia was selected as the relief pitcher on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

The sophomore right hander was thrown into the fire in his first appearance as he entered in the ninth inning with one out, a two-run lead and the bases loaded. Garcia struck out the next two batters to end the threat and secure the win for Chapman.

In Chapman's final game of a 4-0 weekend in Tucson, Ariz., Garcia pitched the seventh, eighth and ninth innings of a comeback win over Piedmont. He entered with the Panthers down 5-3 in the seventh inning. The Chapman bats put up a five-spot in the eighth while Garcia pitched three scoreless frames with five strikeouts. He allowed just a pair of singles with neither runner reaching second base.

The Panthers play at Hart Park for the first time this season when they welcome East Texas Baptist for a three-game series Thursday-Saturday.
