Collins picks up SCIAC weekly pitching award

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Mason Collins was selected as the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week after a series clinching effort on the mound on Saturday. Collins picked up his first win of the season and was the second weekly award winner from Chapman this year.

In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, the Panthers pulled out a 7-6 win in 11 innings. Collins gave the Panthers just what they needed with a dominant start that carried through seven innings.

The righty from Mill Valley, Calif., struck out 11 batters in his seven innings while allowing just one walk. East Texas Baptist scraped together a couple of runs on four hits – all in the first four innings. Collins retired the last eight batters he faced in order and left with a 5-2 Chapman lead.

The dominant start led Chapman to a series-clinching 5-3 win over ETBU.

The Panthers jump into SCIAC play this weekend with a series against La Verne. The three-game series ends at Hart Park with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
