Laverty named D3baseball.com Coach of the Year

ORANGE, Calif. – After guiding the Chapman University baseball team to the national championship this week, head coach Scott Laverty was named the D3baseball.com National Coach of the Year. This is Laverty's first national coaching honor in his 20th season as a Head Coach and sixth at Chapman.

Laverty and his staff were selected as the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year immediately following the regular season and proceeded to lead the team to a 14-3 record through the conference and NCAA Division III Tournament to claim the national title.

The Panthers' skipper is not stranger to success with multiple SCIAC titles at both Redlands and Chapman. He has compiled a 482-345-1 career record over his 20 seasons with a 184-84 over the last six years at Chapman.

The Panthers set the school record for wins in a season with 44 on their way to a national title – the third baseball title in Chapman's history and first since 2003. The Chapman pitching staff also set the NCAA Division III record with 523 strikeouts this season.

The 2019 Division III champions finished the season with a 44-12 overall record.
