Zeisler, Garcia sweep SCIAC baseball weekly awards

ORANGE, Calif. – Juniors Henry Zeisler and Nick Garcia helped the Chapman University baseball team to a series sweep over East Texas Baptist University this weekend, earning SCIAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively.

Zeisler had a monster weekend, posting video game numbers as he tore apart the Tigers' pitching. The left fielder hit back-to-back grand slams – the first time in Chapman history – to help lift the Panthers to an 8-3 win in the first game. Zeisler then went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and two walks in game two of the series. To cap off a historic weekend, the junior went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks in the third and final game.

Zeisler batted a whopping .700 with no strikeouts. He knocked in 10 total runs while going yard three times. The lefty tallied 1.800 slugging percentage and an .800 on base percentage, drawing five walks on top of his seven hits.

Garcia threw a gem in the Panthers' 8-3 victory over ETBU, earning his second victory of the year. The righty tallied 12 strikeouts in just six innings pitched and allowed one earned run. Garcia retired the first 10 batters he faced, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning. He posted a 1.50 ERA and the Tigers hit just .136 against him.

The Panthers make their home debut at Hart Park this Friday, Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m. as they host La Verne in their first SCIAC series.
