Baseball ranked second in preseason poll

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team is still the reigning champion over the NCAA Division III. The Panthers' title defense journey was cut short in 2020 but the polls have picked Chapman to have another strong run in 2021. Chapman was ranked second in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason poll.

After winning the national title in 2019, Chapman was 12-3 when the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly ended sports in 2020 and were unbeaten against non-conference opponents.

The national top-40 poll is top-heavy with SCIAC teams as Cal Lutheran took the top spot in the preseason rankings after posting a 16-1 mark in 2020 and finishing No. 1 in the polls. The Kingsmen and Panthers have represented the SCIAC with two of the last three national titles with Cal Lutheran winning the title in 2017.

Chapman University and the SCIAC are still monitoring the course of the global pandemic and have not yet announced a spring schedule.
