Baseball sweeps first SCIAC weekly awards

Junior Cooper Foard and sophomore Grant Manning took home the first SCIAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards of the 2021 season following Wednesday's win over Biola. Both Panthers won the award for the first time in their respective careers.

Foard hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning in baseball's 6-4 win over Division II competitor Biola Wednesday, March 31. The hit, while his only in the game, gave the Panthers their first lead of the ballgame and a 5-1 advantage. It was just the second homer of Foard's career and his first grand slam.

Grant Manning tossed two scoreless innings in his start against Biola. Manning struck out four, allowed three hits and issued no walks on the hill. He opened up the planned staff day with a solid two innings of work. The righty not only made the first start of the season, it was the first start of his young career.
