Baseball flies past D-II Biola, 13-4

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Hank Zeisler and Mack Cheli combined for seven hits and six RBIs as the Chapman University baseball team took down NCAA Division II Biola 13-4 on Wednesday. The Panthers defeated the Eagle for the second time in a week.

Zeisler had a four-hit game, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Cheli, hitting right behind Zeisler in the lineup, had three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Panthers to the blowout win.

In the other end of the inning, Chapman sent nine different pitchers to the hill in a planned staff night. Both senior Cody Turner and sophomore Scott Bukland struck out the side in their respective innings to lead another double digit strikeout performance. Just one week after striking out 17 Biola batters, the Panthers combined for another 14. The Panthers allowed just four runs on four hits.

Cheli opened the scoring with a two-RBI single in the first. He added another RBI in the second with an infield single and struck again in the fourth with a single into left to score Zeisler.

Chapman put up a four-spot in the second on run-scoring singles from graduate student Nick Condo and Cheli, as well as junior Drew Littwin sprinting home on a wild pitch. Three more in the fourth, a pair in the fifth and one more in the sixth saw Chapman's lead go up to 12-3.

The Panthers scored 13 runs on 13 hits while the Eagles struggled to put together any big rallies to answer. Freshman Warner Rhodes picked up his first career win after tossing a scoreless first.

Chapman opens up its SCIAC schedule on April 16 at Cal Lutheran at 3 p.m. The two teams finish up a three-game series on Saturday at Hart Park, starting at 11 a.m.
