Baseball eliminated from SCIAC Postseason Tournament

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University baseball team fell 11-X to Pomona-Pitzer, ending its run in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Nick Kondo went 4-for-4 to lead the Chapman at the plate.

The Sagehens used two home runs from Isaac Kim in the first two innings to build a 5-1 lead right out of the gate. Pomona-Pitzer scored in each of the first four innings to open an 8-1 lead.

Davis Mieliwocki drove in a run with a single in the sixth but Pomona-Pitzer's offense continued to roll with two more runs in the seventh to make it 11-1.

Chapman rallied in the eighth, sending all nine hitters to the plate and scoring four times to make it 11-6. AJ Anzai and Kai Osaka had back-to-back RBI hits to start the rally. Osaka later scored on a wild pitch and Kondo stroked a two-out double down the line before the inning came to an end.

Harry Deliyannis had a strong start for the Sagehens, tossing seven innings and allowing four runs while his offense gave him plenty of support. Joe Williams pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out the side to close out the game.

Anzia, Mieliwocki, Oli Sellman and Drew Littwin all had multiple hits for the Panthers. Hank Tobias, Turner White and Dylan Holt all had scoreless relief appearances. Holt retired the last four batters in order, striking out two.

The Panthers were ranked No. 2 in the latest NCAA Regional rankings and will await the announcement of the NCAA Tournament field on Monday at 9 a.m. with the chance of being an at-large selection.
