Baseball drops series-opener to Whitman

ORANGE, Calif. — A three-run Whitman homer in the fourth proved to be the difference as baseball dropped its sixth game of the season, 6-3 to the Blues to fall to 2-6 on the season, Friday, Mar. 3.

After jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the middle innings the Panthers clawed their way back via a three-run sixth inning. Chapman did all of its work with two outs, singling home all three runs.

The offense stalled after that, however, and the Blues added an insurance run to close it out.

Chapman was fooled at the plate for the majority of the game, striking out 13 times in the afternoon. A couple bright spots came from Oli Sellman, driving in a run with two-outs and two strikes, and Trent Turquand going 2-for-2 as a pinch hitter.

Grant Manning made the start on the hill allowing five runs, only four earned. Turner White, Colin Godfrey and Henry Chabot did great out of the bullpen allowing only one run across the final four innings and striking out six batters. Godfrey threw only 12 pitches in his lone inning, striking out the side.

Chapman will be back at Hart Park tomorrow to finish out the three-game set with Whitman at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
