Adranly selected to Academic All-District football team

ORANGE, Calif. - Chapman University sophomore football player Jimmy Adranly has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VIII football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the first Academic All-District selection for Adranly who majors in business with a minor in coaching and carries a 3.52 grade-point average.

The 2009 season has been a breakout year for the Panthers' starting punter and kicker. Adranly ranks 9th in Division III in punting with an average of 40 yards per punt which is an improvement of five yards per punt from his 2008 freshman campaign. The Moraga, California native is also 6-for-12 in field goals with a long of 39 yards and he threw the game-winning touchdown pass in the closing seconds of Chapman's 23-20 come-from-behind victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in October.

Along with being on the football team, Adranly serves as the backup goalkeeper for the Chapman University men's soccer team who are NCAA Tournament bound for the first time since 1999 with an 11-4-2 record.

The ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.

Chapman is a member of the District VIII College Division, which includes Division II, III and NAIA schools from throughout the Western United States.
