Mehlhaff earns second Capital One Academic All-District selection

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Chapman University linebacker Michael Mehlhaff has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII football team for the second-straight year, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, Nov. 8. It is the second year in a row that Chapman has had an All-District football selection and 32nd time overall a Chapman player has earned the award.

The Gresham, Ore. native joins 10 other Chapman players over the years that have been selected to one or more CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII football teams. Of the 25 Division III West Region football players to be selected in 2012, he is just one of three SCIAC players to earn the award, the other two being senior DB Duncan Hussey from Pomona-Pitzer and senior LB Jackie Coburn from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The business major has a 3.95 grade point average and is a three-plus year starter. He is tied for the team-lead this season in pass breakups (4) and fumble recoveries (2) and has added an interception. He is second on the team in tackles (64) this season after leading the team in that category as a junior.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.
