Chapman Football Pregame Notes (10/26/13)

Pregame notes for the football game between Chapman University (5-0, 3-0 SCIAC) visiting University of Redlands (3-2, 3-0 SCIAC) on Saturday night are now available. Kickoff is schedule for 7 p.m. at Ernie Chapman Stadium in this battle for first place in the SCIAC.

  • With a 35-16 win over Occidental last week, Chapman moved to 5-0, matching its best start in school history (also 1996).
  • When UCLA suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday, it left Chapman as the only undefeated four-year program in Southern California.
  • The Panthers, vying for a spot among the top 25 Division III teams in the nation, received 12 votes in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) rankings. Chapman has not been ranked nationally since the start of the 1996 season.
  • Chapman's undefeated record is due largely to its potent offensive attack. The Panthers enter tonight's game ranked fourth in Division III with 52.8 ppg.
  • When push comes to shove, no team in the country has been better than the Panthers in the red zone this season. Chapman is the only team in all of college football to score in every red zone opportunity (min. 15 tries), converting on all 28 chances with 25 touchdowns and three field goals.
  • The Panthers have been unbeatable at home as of late, winning six straight games dating back to 2011 while outscoring their opponents by an average of 22 points per game.
  • Redlands has dominated the all-time series against the Panthers, winning six straight including a 32-13 victory a season ago.
  • The Panthers have not defeated the Bulldogs at home since 1996 and their 3-13-1 overall record against Redlands is their worst against any SCIAC team.
  • Since joining the SCIAC in 2012, the Panthers lead the conference with an 11-3 overall record.
