O-Line pair earns Capital One Academic All-District honors

ORANGE, Calif. – A pair of Chapman University offensive linemen have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District VIII team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Senior guard Justin LaLonde and sophomore center Jacob Speer each earned the award for the first time in their careers.

LaLonde, a four-year starter on the offensive line, has a 3.60 grade-point average while majoring in health sciences. Meanwhile, Speer is in a full-time starting role for the first time in his career and has compiled a 3.65 GPA in business administration.

The duo has anchored the offensive trenches for a Chapman team that is ranked in the top-25 in Division III in 10 different offensive categories, including scoring (46.6 ppg) and total offense (486.0 yds/g). The Panthers' line ranks No. 19 in the nation in tackles for loss allowed and No. 23 in pass sacks allowed and is No. 1 throughout all divisions in red zone efficiency.

LaLonde and Speer make up half of the SCIAC players to be named to the All-District VIII team, with Pomona-Pitzer WR Duncan Hussey and Redlands K Kevin Grady the conference's only other representatives.

The Capital One Academic All-America program honors male and female student-athletes in 12 sports annually. To be eligible, students must be varsity starters or key reserves, maintain a grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale, and hold at least a sophomore standing. Chapman is a member of District VIII, which includes all Division III schools from throughout the Western United States.
