Chapman Football Pregame Notes (11/16/13)

ORANGE, Calif. - Pregame notes for the football game between Chapman University (7-1, 5-1 SCIAC) hosting Cal Lutheran University (4-4, 4-2 SCIAC) on Saturday afternoon are now available. Kickoff is schedule for 1 p.m. at Ernie Chapman Stadium.

  • At 7-1, Chapman has matched its highest win total in 17 years (7-2 in 1996) and is one win shy from the school record for wins (8-1 in 1995).
  • Win or lose today, the Panthers have put together consecutive winning seasons for just the third time in the program's history (1994-96, 2007-08).
  • The Panthers have scored 40+ points each of their last two games, but have seen their season average drop to 46 ppg, ranking 7th in the nation. Linfield (Ore.) leads the nation with a 58.4 mark.
  • Last week, RB Cody Chapple became just the fifth player in Chapman history to score four-or-more touchdowns in a game. The junior leads the Panthers with 733 rushing yards, averaging 91.6 yards per game.
  • Chapman closes out the regular season today at Ernie Chapman Stadium where, the Panthers boast a 13-3 record (.812 pct.) over the past three-plus seasons.
  • The Panthers' backfield tallied a season-best 348 rushing yards against Claremont-M-S, boosting their season average to 233.6 yards per game.
  • Junior QB Michael Lahey was nearly perfect in his last start, completing 19-of-20 passes. His 75.1 completion percentage ranks second amongst all Division III QBs and is on pace to set a new school record (previously 63.1%).
  • A first quarter turnover in the end zone last week snapped the Panthers' streak of scoring in 35 straight red zone opportunities. Chapman was the only football program in the nation (across all divisions) with a perfect mark and still leads Division III having scored on 40 of 41red zone opportunities (35 td, 5 fg).
  • The Panthers are 5-13 all-time against Cal Lutheran and have not beaten the Kingsmen at home since 2007.
