Football seeks donors for leukemia patient, Be The Match

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University football team is partnering with Be The Match – a non-profit organization – in search of registrants for bone marrow donation. The Panthers will be holding a drive on Wednesday, March 12 throughout the Chapman campus, asking the community for a simple cheek swab and waiver which could potentially lead to saving lives.

One life of particular interest to the Chapman football team is that of Ben Teach, a three-year old diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia last October. Ben, who was recently released from the hospital, but still in need of a donor, spent an afternoon with the Panthers touring the football facilities and getting to run on Wilson Field with the guys.

Chapman's team is one of several throughout the country participating in Be The Match's "Get in the Game" program which is helping create awareness for bone marrow donations by hosting registry drives on college campuses.

The Panthers' marrow registry drive will take place on Wednesday, March 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Attallah Piazza and in front of Argyros Forum. Anyone age 18 to 44 is eligible to become a registered donor, which requires just a bit of paperwork and a cheek swab.
