Game Notes:

• As season openers go, there may never have been one bigger than this for Chapman
in its 20-year history; hosting No. 5-ranked Linfield College in the first-ever
meeting between the two schools.

• The Panthers have played 12 games vs. top-25 opponents over the years and have
never won one. The highest-ranked opponent Chapman has faced was No. 7 Cal
Lutheran in the 2012 season finale when the Panthers lost 38-28. In the Coach
Owens Era (since 2006), Chapman is 0-8 vs. nationally-ranked competition, but
five of those games have been decided by 10 points or less and four of those by
a touchdown or less. Five of the eight losses have been on the road.

• Chapman is 8-1 in its last nine games at Chapman Stadium with an average margin
of victory over 20 points. The only blemish was a four-point loss to eventual
2013 SCIAC champs Redlands.

• Reigning SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Year Michael Lahey has been named to
the 2014 Senior Classic Preseason "Super Senior" Watch List. The senior QB led
the nation with a 75.4 completion percentage (150-for-199) and ranked fifth in
passing efficiency in 2013 while throwing for 1,961 yards (16 TDs, 4 INTs).

• Linfield reached the quarterfinals of the Division III playoffs in 2013 and led
eventual national champion UW-Whitewater 17-0 in the second quarter only to
fall 28-17 in Wisconsin.

• The Wildcats have won five consecutive Northwest Conference titles and haven't
lost a regular season game since Week 1 of 2010 - a string of 35 straight
wins. The Linfield offense led the nation in scoring last year, averaging 48.8
points, while its rush defense was also tops in Division III, surrendering just 60.3
yards per game.
