Football draws rematch with No. 10 Linfield in Oregon

ORANGE, Calif. – Making its first NCAA Division III playoff appearance in school history, the Chapman University football team will travel to McMinnville, Ore. to take on No. 10-ranked Linfield College in the first round of the postseason tournament on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for noon at Maxwell Field.

The Panthers – ranked No. 17 in the latest poll by D3football.com – are currently riding an eight-game winning streak, having run the table with a perfect SCIAC record and their first-ever conference championship. Chapman (8-1 overall, 7-0) clinched the title outright with a 45-19 win over Whittier College last Saturday, which also happened to be its ninth consecutive win on the road.

Chapman will put both streaks on the line at Linfield (8-1 overall, 6-1 NWC), which handed the Panthers their only loss of the season in Week 1 – a 21-14 Wildcats win in Orange on Sept. 13. Linfield went on to win the Northwest Conference title and clinch its 11th NCAA playoff berth in the past 15 years. The Wildcats' only loss of the season came in a 31-28 home loss to Willamette (Ore.) on Nov. 1.

Linfield is coming off a 2013 season in which it reached the NCAA Division III quarterfinals, where it lost to eventual national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Wildcats won the national title in 2004.

The winner of the Chapman-Linfield matchup will advance to face the winner of No. 24 Texas Lutheran at No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor on Nov. 29.
