NEW QB UN-VAIL-ED
• Sophomore Mac Vail made his Panther debut on Saturday and led the Panthers to a comeback win at Pomona-Pitzer. He was 7-for-10 in his first appearance under centerwith three touchdown passes.
• Vail completed the first four passes of his career, including going 3-for-3 with a TD toss in his first drive.
WEINSTEIN ON THE RETURN
• Junior Ethan Weinstein heads into game No. 5 as the top return man in the SCIAC. He is averaging 29.7 yards per kick return and 26 yards per punt return.
• In Chapman's home opener, he set the school record with over 200 return yards, including a kick return for a TD.
• Last week, Weinstein flashed his speed on a punt return when he took a punt back 41 yards to set the Panthers up with ideal field position.
• He ranks 13th in kick return yards per game in Division III and leads the SCIAC.
DEFENSE STIFFENS UP
• The Chapman defense limited Pomona-Pitzer to just 13 points in Saturday's win as the offense took off in the second quarter.
• Pomona-Pitzer had only 279 yards of total offense and found the end zone just once in the second quarter. The Panthers held the Sagehens to only three points over the final 34 minutes and forced two turnovers.
• Junior Conner Larkin came up with two big INTs to anchor the Panther D.
SERIES HISTORY
• Occidental and Chapman have played to a near even record in their 17 previous meetings. Chapman holds the slight edge with a 9-8 record over the SCIAC foes.
• Chapman has won the last three meetings and four of the last five to take the slight advantage in the series.
• Last year, the Panthers had a season-high of 59 points in the win over Oxy at Wilson Field. The Tigers last win came at Patterson Field in 2011 when the Tigers held off Chapman for a 27-17 win.
