Complete Game Notes

  • The Chapman University football team is coming off its third SCIAC win of the season against Cal Lutheran and second consecutive victory.
  • After last week's efficient performance against Cal Lutheran, junior Ricky Bautista leads the SCIAC in completion percentage. He has completed 71.7 percent of his passes in seven games this season and has been even better in SCIAC games, completing 72.9 percent of his passes.
  • Bautista completed his first five passes last week. After his sixth pass fell incomplete, he completed 13 in a row from the second to the fourth quarter. He has not thrown an interception in the last three games, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes with five touchdowns. He has also rushed for a pair of TDs in the last three games in which the Panthers are 2-1.
  • Last week, Joe Mudie had his third triple digit rushing game – carrying the ball 30 times for 141 yards – both career-highs. He also ran for over 100 yards against Pomona-Pitzer and at Redlands.
  • Chapman has been producing more on the road this season, averaging 22 points per game away and scoring 12 TDs while scoring 18.7 ppg and seven TDs in three home games.
  • The Stags defense has had much more success getting to the quarterback at home rather than on the road. Ten of their 13 sacks came on their home field this year. Their success in getting to the QB has also paralleled their success on the scoreboard with 12 of their 13 sacks coming in their five wins this year.
  • Senior Trey Reynolds threw for four touchdowns, a season-high, and 255 passing yards last week against University of La Verne in a 34-23 victory for the Stags at home.
  • Last season Claremont-M-S out-passed Chapman at Wilson Field 296 yards to 252 yards in an overtime thriller in which the Stags took home 33-30 victory. Senior Devin Ray led the team with seven tackles against CMS, including one of Chapman's two sacks in the game.
  • It's been 'fourth-and-no problem' for the Panther offense so far this year, converting on over half of its fourth downs. Chapman ranks 14th in Division III in that category.
