Football heads to Texas for matchup with Trinity

• The Chapman University football team heads to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, for the first time in school history. The last time these two teams faced off the Panthers beat the Tigers 19-17 at Wilson Field in the 2016 season.
 
• This is the 2017 season home opener for Trinity after traveling to No. 25 Redlands and Millsaps. The Tigers dropped the first game 32-7 to the top-ranked Bulldogs, but earned their first win in a nail biting 28-26 win over Millsaps.
 
• Chapman is coming off a 27-12 loss to seventh-ranked Linfield in its season home opener. The Panthers led the Wildcats going into halftime, but the Wildcats defense held Chapman scoreless over the final half.
 
• Sophomore Elias Deeb was named to D3football.com's Preseason All-America First Team heading into the 2017 season. Deeb was the only sophomore that made the prestigious list. He tallied eight punts for 318 total yards, averaging 39.8 yards per punt in his season opener.
 
• The Chapman defense is off to a solid start. They forced four turnovers against Linfield, ranking them nationally early in the season.
 
• Seniors Joe Mudie and Austin Pyka led the Panthers in their first game of the 2017 season after being named to the 2016 All-SCIAC First Team. Mudie had a team-high eight carries for 88 yards as well as four receptions for 23 yards against the Wildcats. Pyka was a force on defense, leading the team with 10 tackles.
