Mudie’s game-winning TD earns him SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif. - Senior Joe Mudie lifted the Panthers to a nail-biting 42-40 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday night, earning the SCIAC Athlete of the Week nomination. Down four with one final untimed play due to a Pomona-Pitzer penalty, the captain ran one yard for a touchdown to give Chapman its first SCIAC win. The La Canada native was a go-to for Chapman the whole game, leading the team with 104 rushing yards on 21 carries and tallying 32 receiving yards on two catches.

On second and 10 at the Chapman 44 yard line, senior Ricky Bautista found Mudie, connecting for 11 yards and a first and 10 that would aid in getting the Panthers to the one-yard line where Mudie converted the game-winner.

The veteran is among one of the best running backs in the SCIAC, ranking first overall in yards per game with 96.7. He ranks No. 26 in the nation and leads the SCIAC in rush yards per carry, averaging 6.59 yards per carry. Mudie is a force on offense, having never been tackled behind the line of scrimmage on a run play.
