Deeb among nominees for Allstate AFCA Good Works Team

NORTHBROOK, Ill. – He's been nationally recognized for his work on the football but his work outside the lines of Wilson Field has earned him his most recent recognition. Rising junior and All-American punter Elias Deeb was announced as one of 169 nominees for the prestigious Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has been one of the most esteemed honors in college football for more than 25 years. The student-athletes who are nominated for this award not only demonstrate a unique dedication to community service and desire to make a positive impact on the lives around them, but they also show tremendous perseverance as well as the ability to overcome personal struggles and come out victorious against all odds.

Since his arrival on campus, Deeb has made an impact on the field and off the field. He was a Frist Team All-SCIAC selection and earned All-America Honorable Mention as a freshman in 2016. A few months later, he led the inaugural Chapman Special Games – an event for children with disabilities to participate in games on Wilson Field.

While a student at Mater Dei High School, Deeb became heavily involved with Special Games put on at the high school. He worked his way up to Director of the Special Games and brought the tradition with him to Chapman. He put together the program and had almost the entire football team involved in the first year and continued that tradition into his second year.

The number of participants grew significantly in its second year and Deb hopes to see that trend continue as it becomes an annual football tradition. Beyond Chapman, Deeb volunteers as the Director of Youth Ministry at St. Luke's Orthodox Church, where he also sings in the choir.

Additionally, he is involved with the FOCUS North America Homeless Feeding service, is a Crime Survivor Walk volunteer and a Relay for Life participant.

While excelling on the field and in the community, he is a two-time Academic All-SCIAC selection as a double major in business administration and finance.

In September, Allstate and the AFCA will unveil 22 award recipients – 11 from the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 more from the Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and the NAIA as well as an honorary head coach.
