Fieber, Calomeni earn SCIAC weekly awards

ORANGE, Calif. – Two members of the Chapman University football team were honored with SCIAC Athlete of the Week awards earlier this afternoon. Senior Ian Fieber earned the SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week while fellow senior Curt Calomeni earned the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Fieber finished off the season with another explosive game on offense that lifted the Panthers to a 55-34 win over La Verne. He threw for 368 yards and six touchdowns, setting the new single season record with 2,545 passing yards and tying the single-game record for touchdown passes. The senior went 23-for-32 in his final game as a Panther.

The Mission Viejo native left his name in the Chapman record books after Saturday's game. Fieber set four school records on top of his single-season passing yards. He shattered the previous passing TDs record, tossing for 28 touchdowns this season. Fieber also set new school records with 282.8 passing yards per game, 184 completions and 299 attempts.

Calomeni led the defense with 15 tackles against the Leopards. Six of those tackles came as solo tackles while he assisted on nine others. The San Jose native ended his Chapman career ranked second in the SCIAC with 9.7 tackles per game.

The Panthers ended the 2018 season with a 5-4 overall record to clinch their third consecutive winning season, matching the longest such streak in school history.
