Keefe begins season with SCIAC weekly award

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior Dillon Keefe led a stout defensive effort in the opening week win for the Chapman University football team and was selected as the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. The junior linebacker was a constant disruption in the backfield and earned his second career weekly honor.

Three of his five tackles in the game went for a loss, including two sacks, while the Panthers held the Boxers to just 10 yards rushing and less than 300 yards of total offense. He also had a pair of QB hurries to disrupt the passing game and forced a fumble. The Boxers managed just one touchdown against the Chapman defense.

On special teams, Keefe continued to find his way to a disruptive force. He blocked a punt in the fourth quarter to set up another Chapman score just two plays later.

Chapman defeated Pacific 45-14 and will take on Whitworth on Sep. 21 in its home-opener at 7 p.m.
