Parkin picks off three passes, earns SCIAC award
ORANGE, Calif. - Senior Nathan Parkin tallied three interceptions in a crucial 26-21 victory over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday night, earning SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Parkin's three interceptions and his career-high five tackles helped the football team remain undefeated and continue the best start in program history, moving to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the SCIAC.
Two of the San Jose, Calif. native's three picks came in the second half and the third sealed the win for the Panthers. With 4:21 on the clock, Pomona-Pitzer started their final drive of the match down 26-21. The Sagehens drove downfield to reach the 15-yard line. With 1:10 left on the clock, Parkin picked off a throw into the end zone to secure the win.
The captain became just the fifth Panther in the history of the program to pick off three passes in a game and the first since 2005.
The Panthers return home to Wilson Field on Saturday, Nov. 9 to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. With a win over the Stags, the Panthers would claim at least a share of the SCIAC title.
