Mendoza earns final SCIAC weekly offensive award

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Tanner Mendoza closed out the season with a pair of touchdowns and a SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week award. Mendoza had his biggest game of the season and came through in the clutch moments of the game.

Trailing 24-21 with four minutes left, the Panthers gave the ball to Mendoza on the one-yard line and he punched it into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown. After an interception set the Panthers up at the La Verne 10, the Panthers went back to Mendoza three times. On fourth down, he came out of the backfield to catch a crucial 2-yard touchdown that proved to be the difference in the game.

Mendoza ran for a season-high 99 yards on 18 carries, averaging 5.5 yards per carry, and caught three passes for 10 yards in his final game. The Panthers closed out the season with a 35-32 win at La Verne and a 7-3 overall record. Their 4-2 mark in conference put them in second place in the conference standings.
