Three-pointers help Chapman to fourth straight win

ORANGE, Calif. - The Chapman University men's basketball team shot nearly 70 percent from three-point range and received big production from its starting guards on the way to a 78-70 win over visiting Whittier College at the Hutton Sports Center on Monday night. The win was a season-best fourth straight for the Panthers.

Chapman (7-2) shot a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range in the first half, including a buzzer-beater by senior G Sean Vreeburg which gave the Panthers a 42-32 halftime lead.  The Panthers finished the game 9-for-13 (69.2 percent) from beyond the arc. Junior PG Kyle Wood scored a career-high 28 points with three three-pointers, six rebounds and three steals to lead Chapman.

Sophomore G Griffin Ramme also recorded a career-high with 22 points for Chapman, including 4-for-4 from three-point range.

The Panthers trailed just once in the first two minutes, and then led the remainder of the game. Whittier (2-5) cut the Chapman lead to just two points with just over eight minutes to play, but the Panthers responded with a 13-2 run to keep the Poets at arm's distance.

Chapman improved to 2-0 at home this season and the Panthers have won 11 of their last 12 games at Hutton Center dating back to last season.
